I’d like to pose a question to all my fellow Mac heads out there: what chat client are you using? I’ve been using Adium for a few years now, and it’s finally getting to the point where I need to switch or have a serious meltdown. Well not really, but I figure the drama could be semi-entertaining? Probably not. Anyhoo…
On the surface, Adium is really pretty awesome. The user interface is outstanding, and it supports all the chat protocols I need. However, the seemingly most important aspect of any chat client (you know, sending IMs) is totally lacking with Adium. At least the MSN integration. Messages get lost all the time, and I seem to get signed off a lot as well.
I’ve looked around the Intarwebs fairly thoroughly, and can’t seem to find an adequate replacement. IChat is nice, but doesn’t support MSN, which tons of my friends use.
Help.
Adium will prolly be your only choice for a while dude... suck it up! :)
Only time I lose messages is if I accidentally leave myself logged in at one computer, then login with another... sometimes Adium will receive the next couple of MSN messages at the first computer. But I chalk that up to user error more than anything else (I should remember to logout of the first one).
The signoff issue might be networking thing. We have this problem at work sometimes. There's a theory it has something to do with port-specific timeouts; whatever port MSN chate uses might need some tweaking. Just a thought.
@Jeff - Strange, both my buddy El and I lose messages constantly. I'll send a message to someone, switch windows, come back after 10 mins and see a timeout message. Uber lame.
Oh well, I guess I'll have to stick with Adium, or write my own chat client, which I want to do but have 0 time for atm.
